About BOBBIN & WIRE

Handcrafted jewellery made in Berkshire, UK

Combining the ancient craft of bobbin lace-making with wire, weaving intricate and unique pieces of contemporary jewellery and art.  All pieces are designed and made by Jane Fullman.

Inspired by the patterns of nature, the transient and ever-changing natural world.

Working in copper and silver wire for its delicacy, strength as well as textural and structural properties.

Exploring the rich history of lace-making to create wonder and joy in tiny pieces of wearable art.

Bobbin and needle laces date back to before the Sixteenth-Century and are a rich part of our history and culture. There are references to bobbin lace in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in which Orsino says;

“And the free maidens that weave their thread with bones”

In the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries lace was frequently made using precious metals including gold and silver.

About Jane Fullman

In Bobbin Lace there are two stitches and yet from this, so many different types of lace have been created as lace-making has spread from region to region across Europe and there are endless possibilities. I love the process of making bobbin lace, I find it meditative and therapeutic. I love designing and making lace in wire and the challenges that it poses.

I first started to make lace with wire in 2016 after attending a wire lace workshop with Lauran Sundin in 2016. Since then I’ve travelled the world attending wire lace workshops with different teachers.

I hope my jewellery and art bring you a sense of joy and remind you of the beauty in the world that surrounds us.
